Chingay Parade is a annual event organized and presented by the People’s Association of Singapore. On the performing day for the coming 2009, there will be 13 floats with 3800 performers from 40 local organizations, plus 4 local international communities and cultural groups from 8 other countries. Making Chingay Parade a wonderful event for internationals.
This Chingay Parade traditionally started as early on the 19th century and began in Penang, a state in Malaysia. The word “Chingay” generally means “the art of costume and masquerade”, coined in Hokkien, one of the Chinese dialects. Within Chingay Parade, you will indulge your eyes with gorgeous and elegant designed floats, dancing and different kinds of performances from local and foreign artistes and groups. Stand by your camera for the best shots.
Main Chingay parades will hold on the streets from City hall to Raffles Ave, Singapore on the 30th and 31st of January 2009. Road closures will impose during the period. You may get your tickets at SISTIC website and through other authorized agents island-wide, or at the Singapore Visitors Centres located in Orchard Road. Discounts are available for certain eligible, especially tourists. Check out the website of Chingay Parade Singapore 2009 for more details.
Rest assure that if the date for the main Chingay Parade is not for you, the heartland celebrations will continue at Ang Mo Kio GRC and Chinatown on 1st February and 7th February 2009 respectively. A toast to the success of Chingay celebrations.
