Directly ahead of me, a tour guide was explaining the history of 20th century Vietnam, and how it unfolded right at this spot. It was here where the last emperor of Vietnam, Bao Dai, turned over his government to a revolutionary government. The turnover did nothing to stop the French from coming back to try to reclaim their lost Empire, obliterating much of the Hue Citadel in the process.
